There is no future. There is no past. Time is simultaneous, an intricately structured jewel that humans insist on viewing one edge at a time, when the whole design is visible in every facet.

My Unimaginative Brain

I haven't being blogging consistently. This has always been a problem. Apparently my brain doesn't like to PMS the creative juices very often. I have been  trying to read tons of articles on Creative Writing and articles on how to blog and stuff, but unfortunately I haven't got anywhere. What I have understood  about writing creatively is the generation of craziest, stupidest of ideas. In short make a mess. Making a mess gives an opportunity for odd thoughts which  can turn into great posts.

I read somewhere that creativity, imagination, innovation are the responsibility of the Right part of the brain. The Left brain is responsible for all the Analytical, Rational, Logical and stuffs like that. And I figured that my Left part of the brain was in fact getting in the way of my writing. Every odd thought, crazy idea that ever came to my mind, my rather rational left brain easily discarded it, terming them stupid and embarrassing.

I figured, may be I was more Left brain dominated and checked the web to see if there were any tests to find out which part of my brain was more active. I  took the first test whose results were 50-50 and the conclusion read that I was more of a middle brain person.

Middle Brain? I was like WTF is that? I quickly google’d for "What is Middle Brain?" and it threw up a vomit of links. I promptly clicked on a Wikipedia link which defined Middle Brain as:-

"In biological anatomy, the mesencephalon (or midbrain) comprises the tectum (or corpora quadrigemini), tegmentum, the ventricular mesocoelia (or "iter"),  and the cerebral peduncles, as well as several nuclei and fasciculi. Caudally the mesencephalon adjoins the pons (metencephalon) and rostrally it adjoins the  diencephalon (Thalamus, hypothalamus, et al.)"

Oh, Wow! Impressive! Anyone for battle of wits? And since I had a clear understanding of what the "Middle Brain" actually is, I thought why not take some other tests just to be sure. To make it  worse, the rest of the 3 tests gave the same results. Since I was more interested in my Right brain, I casually ignored all of it and started my hunt for  notes on Right brain and how I can improve its function.

It seems, that the Left brain, the boss, being more analytical and things such, gets easily bored with the repetitive tasks and cant function properly. So  for the Right brain to do the function independently and with freedom, it is essential that the Left brain doesn't interfere. There seems to be many ways of doing that out of which only two managed to interest me. The first is Sex and the second is Meditation. I ain’t kidding. Read this.

Well, now there was a real dilemma and my left brain was busy running analytics and computations to zero in on a choice. My logical left brain let me down with a conclusion, "Dude, there is no way you can go the first way. You cant go sleeping around just for your right brain to function better. And it is not fair to put one part of the body through hard labor just so that your lazy right brain can get its ass moving". Disappointed that I was, I choose the second way.

Arrgh! So, Meditation while chanting mantras helps keep your mind in control and doesn't let it wander, hence there is very little for the left brain to work on. Improvisation on the meditation technique will help in the lack of fodder for the left brain and it will get itself into a suspend mode. This will help in the right brain activation and will function better.

It is advised that at least 15 minutes of meditation is required daily to see nominal results. Only by practicing dedicatedly for a longer duration will yield reasonable results. That's all right with me since I sure don't look forward to becoming Da Vinci in a day.
